How To Sign Up For eBay

how to sign up for ebay

eBay could not have made their site any easier to sign up for, especially when you consider thousands of transactions take place every day there.

If you haven’t signed up for eBay yet, now is a great time to join this online community. Accounts are 100% free and extremely easy to sign up for.

Step 1
Get on eBay.com and click on the “Register” link. Fill in the empty boxes with personal information such as first and last name, address, city and state of residence, country, phone number, and email. All of this information is collected for shipping information after you purchase a product. eBay is a member of TRUSTe Service (with a link to verify) which means they do not rent or sell personal information to third parties without your consent. You can learn more about your privacy on eBay by visiting and reading the “Privacy Policy.”

eBay’s primary form of communication to all its users is through email. You’ll receive notices on products, items you bided on, and items you sold. Users can change what types of emails eBay sends after they create an account and log onto “My eBay.”

Step 2
Selecting an eBay user ID and password is the most important step in the account set-up process. It’s important because the user ID and password personally log you onto eBay every time you visit the site. You do not want your personal information compromised by selecting an easy user ID and password that a hacker can easily hack into. You also do not want to share your user ID and password with anyone. eBay has several guidelines for both user IDs and passwords that will help protect your identity from hackers. Some individuals write down the user ID and password along with the secret question/answer (we’ll explain in one moment) in a safe place.

After you log onto eBay for about a week, the user ID and password should become second nature and memorized inside your head.

Step 3
eBay requests a secret question and answer in order to retrieve a password you forget. The secret question/answer is nice because it prevents just anyone from requesting your lost password. Users will select from six different secret questions (see drop down list). After select a question the new user will then type in an answer. The answer should be obvious to you and something you can answer in a jiffy. If and when you forget your password, eBay will email you the password assuming you can answer the secret question you designated during this registration process. Make sure you spell out the answer exactly how you want it/normally would spell it. Enter your date of birth to close out the personal information section.

Now you need to type in the correct verification code followed by agreeing to the “User Agreement” and “Privacy Policy.” It’s highly recommended you read both of these documents carefully, although a lot of new users just skip over them blindly. You must be 18 or older to sign up for an account on eBay. New accounts will also have the opportunity to sign up for Pay Pal during the eBay registration. You can opt to sign up for Pay Pal later. Visit PayPal.com for more information.

Step 4
Click “Continue.” The registration process is completed. On average it takes most individuals 3-5 minutes to sign up. A minute or two after registration is complete; an email is delivered with a confirmation link. Open up the message and click on the link. Your account is now officially created and available to use. Log on with your new user ID and password.

Happy Bidding!
