How To Save Money on eBay

In the past, even ten years ago, consumers had no choice but to go directly through the retailer. The retailer had all the power in the world to control prices and jack up costs on anything they wanted to. Consumers in the 21st century now have the power to avoid the middle man and bid through eBay.
eBay really revolutionized the internet and it hasn’t been the same since. Now consumers have more pull then the retailers. Don’t like the price at your local shop? Why not try eBay for a better deal?
Saving money using eBay is easy and abundant with a little patience.
First off, what type of product are you looking to purchase? Is it old or is it new? Is the item a common everyday household item or a limited, collector’s item All these questions need to be addressed.
If you want to purchase the product new and it recently was made available, chances are the product is sold in large quantities on eBay. Some sellers will offer the product as a “buy now” item, while some will allow an auction on a brand new item, and even others will offer as a “used but almost new” product. Used items, even if only used once, are always cheaper than the same product new. If you want to save money, you’re first big cost saver is purchasing a product used but in excellent condition. You can ensure the used product is dependable by the description on the sale’s page, photos (make sure used products have photos), as well as the buyer’s reputation and feedback from other customers. If the buyer is reputable and offers a great description, photos, and return policy – the product should be a guarantee to serve your specific needs and purpose.
Okay, let’s say you really want an XBOX 360 something fierce. You’ve placed a few bids on a few different auctions but you keep getting beat out in the last seconds. You’re so frustrated that you find a “buy now” featured item. It’s more expensive then you really wanted to pay for but you love the fact that with a few clicks you can purchase the item, have it shipped, and all together avoid the competition. So do you do it? If you are trying to save money, NO!
I know this hard, because I have also bought into this trick, but “buy it now” items usually are more expensive for a reason. Buyers will not bid on the item, so they need to jack up the price a bit. “Buy it now” products are comparable to items at a local retailer. The buyer purchases the item and sells it as if it sat on a store shelf. The whole reason you shop on eBay is you’re looking to get away from retailers and save some money.
If you really want to save money on eBay do a lot of research. Do not bid on the first item that appears in the search engine. Study and research multiple pages of items (trust me, most products have multiple pages) and really work hard for the perfect deal. Also, don’t rush to bid on an item early. Getting the first bid in on an item is an amateur mistake. Instead, wait until a couple hours remain on the auction before you really get into the heat of the competition. Try to snipe the bid (Snipe = stealing the final and highest bid right before the auction ends) and you will save a lot of money.
