So, What is The Right Time to Sell? Good question!

When it comes to listing on eBay and actually profiting from a sale, it’s actually a great deal more complicated than you’d think. Whilst for many it may seem like a simple point and click operation, the reality is when it comes to listing items for sale on eBay, there are a number of underlying skills required to make sure you get the most out of each listing.

One of the most important things to start with is the marketing of your product. Just like in real business, which focuses on targets, you need to focus on customers. The first thing you should know before you sell is who you’re going to be selling to.

From here, you can take advantage of one of the best marketing techniques. That’s selling when the time is right. Perhaps a weekend sale is perfect for your product? Maybe a three-day listing is the one to go for?

You’ll never know unless you do some market research.

Firstly – take a look at your product and ask yourself three questions, is it a seasonal product? Is it a kid’s product and finally, what’s the competition like?

Why would you ask those questions? It’s a great way to create a quick customer profile, and from here, you can decide as to whether or not now is actually a profitable time to sell your item. eBay is a cutthroat enterprise and if you don’t know what you’re selling, someone else will come along, purchase your item for pennies, and then resell it for profit.

It happens time and time again.

Seasonal Marketing is something that happens every day, and it’s a great tool to use on eBay. The rule is simple. If there is a demand for a product, then it’ll sell. This means out of luck if you’re trying to sell snow shoes in July. But there are exceptions to the rule, and one big exception is Christmas. Christmas is one of those times where people will buy anything if it’s a bargain. But be careful, Christmas is not your golden ticket to success!

Weekday Sales

Did you know that a great deal of eBay browsing actually happens at work? You’d think that people would be too busy working, but the reality is eBay is filled with browsers that simply have too much time on their hands. A weekday listing is a great way to target adults and office workers as well as stay at home moms.

Beat the Competition

When it comes to selling, eBay is so huge, that anyone could be your competitor. As a result, the first thing you should do after establishing a marketing profile is to look at the completed auctions on eBay. Find out how much products in your category have been selling for and more importantly, if they’ve been selling at all.

At the same time, take a look at the current auctions and ask yourself the question, “Is this the right time to sell?” If there is a lot of competition out there at the minute, sometimes the best advice is to simply wait a few days or a week because eBay is a fluid market and everything changes.

Buying on eBay is really easy and mostly a manner of staying on top of things while finding the great deals. Selling on the other hand is a little more difficult and does take some time to master. This tutorial will help walk you through everything you need to know to start selling on eBay today!

You’ll find on eBay that buyers are in a rush to find great deals. They are not going to waste a lot of time going through each and every item in a category. Since you know this, the best way to catch a buyer’s eye is through a great title. Titles take some time to master but are the major invite towards landing a deal. Titles may include anything from the Brand Name to the price to the rarity of the item. Great titles often are short, to the point, and include popular search engine keywords. Do not write things sleazy titles like, “So Good, You Know it’s a Steal!” Instead, stick to the basics and include popular search words.

Photos are also incredibly important and not just “stock photos.” Stock photos are referred to photos the companies which produce the product use. Stock photos will work for brand new items because there is nothing “new” to see. However eBay buyers hate products that are advertised as used yet contain only a stock photo. This stock photo does little to tell them about how good of shape the product is in. Sure you’re description of the product will help inform them but anyone can say they’re beat-up vehicle is “a timeless classic.” Photos say more than words. Include 3-4 quality photos for any used product.

Product descriptions are important when they add new and insightful information. Do not explain the pictures already show. Instead use concise and well organized descriptions. Include bold headlines, bulleted lists, and include bare essentials about product.

You can always learn a lot from others who know what they are doing. The same is true with selling on eBay. Check out what “Powersellers” are doing. They do not just get this title for doing nothing. They are masters at selling. Also check out what the same product you are selling is generally going for. Who will buy your used item for $20 when you can buy one new for $22? Start pricing low with no reserves. Make a lot of sales and satisfied customers will add to your reputation.

Shipping is another big draw. Generally people like things to arrive quicker rather than later. Try to be fair and meet the customer’s needs. Also include certain deals where you pay for the shipping and handling.

Buyers also appreciate a seller who will answer their questions. Prospective buyers may ask any question about the product during the biding phase. Make sure you get back to their questions fast and your answers are clear and help solve their concerns. Also communicate with the eventual buyer of the product. Thank them for the purchase. Notify them when you ship the product. Ask if you can do anything else for them. Make sure you request final positive feedback on the purchase to help build your eBay reputation. Communication and good will goes a long way.

eBay will provide step-by-step directions and forms for selling an item after you log into eBay and click on “Sell an Item” under the “Sell” tab on the top right hand corner.

Selling goods on eBay has become one of the most lucrative online business arrangements. Many people think that succeeding in an eBay business is effortless — this is a misconception. Yes, running an eBay business is relatively easy, but it still needs to be structured in a very systematic manner. There is some basic planning that should be incorporated at the time of launching your eBay business.

Getting Started on eBay
The most fundamental step in starting an eBay business is understanding your priorities and availability of resources. These can be easily evaluated by answering certain questions:

Do you plan to use eBay as a part-time or full-time source of income?

Are you passionate about the kind of products and services you are willing to offer?

Is the amount of time that is needed on a daily basis compatible with your lifestyle?

Do you want to be an online retailer, affiliate or just a dropshipper?

Do you have access to procuring the goods, you plan to advertise, on a regular basis?

Which selling format is easier for you to handle — eBay auctions or selling goods for a fixed price?

Registration
Once you have answered these questions, you will feel confident about starting your eBay venture and a basic outline for your business plan will begin to emerge. Now, it is time to be registered as an eBay Seller.

Just visit eBay’s Home Page> Click on the ‘Sell’ tab

The page provides you systematic (step-by-step) guidelines for registering yourself

Make sure to provide the latest and fully-functional contact and financial information, including banks and credit cards

Taking Precautions As An eBay Seller
Once the registration is completed, it is time to organize your business options.

As a general practice, many eBay sellers tend to file for incorporation — Limited Liability Company (LLC).

Inventory — create a proper format for calculating expenses and profits in a detailed manner. Ensure that you maintain separate accounting books of your eBay venture, which will further help you, file your taxes.

Insurance — some eBay entrepreneurs take extra precaution in the form of seeking insurance coverage for their business.

Legalities — there might be some localities where conducting business from home might lead to some extra form of taxation or it could be deemed as violating regulations. Check-out such issues and complete all the formal paperwork.

Make Informed Decisions
Success as an eBay seller doesn’t come easy as you have numerous competitors to compete against. One aspect that most eBay sellers tend to ignore is using the site’s resources in educating themselves about the best business practices that should be followed. Some of these recommendations are listed on www.ebay.com/university.

Renting Options
When you begin any business venture, the idea is to seek maximum security (the least risks) and an eBay business is no different. Instead, of outrightly renting a huge warehouse facility, begin with using yours or some nearby garage, spare sheds or even the basement to store goods.

Payment Options
This could be one tricky aspect. Many customers might have an aversion to a payment method that appears convenient to you. The solution lies in seeking a universally acceptable mode of receiving payments. For this purpose, PayPal is highly recommended since it carries out transactions rather quickly and the services are quite cheap. It provides the facility of linking your banking accounts and credit cards for sending/receiving money, all around the world. Further, its registration process is very simple and asks for a limited proof.

Optimization
There are literally thousands of serious and prospective buyers who are always streaming through eBay product categories in search of that ‘special’ offer. While some of them are looking for the latest items, some are bothered only for discounted items and many are there just hoping that some extraordinary offer might come their way. Your eBay store should be able to attract all sorts of visitors.

It has to be a blend of exclusive, contemporary, outrightly cheap/discounted and seasonal goods. Again, you have to ensure that when visitors conduct an eBay search, the chances of your goods being shown in the search results is the maximum. This is something parallel to search engine optimization. For this purpose, carefully choose the words you use to describe your merchandise. Each item should be listed with a name that contains important keywords and a hint of your exclusive offer.
